A Holiday Guide to Using Emotions in Time
This holiday season, let’s focus on creating deeper connections with the people we care about most. With Emotions in Time, you can turn your Christmas gatherings into meaningful, fun, and memorable moments where everyone gets to share and listen.
Here’s how to make the most of your Emotions in Time
cards during your Christmas celebrations:
1. Create a Cozy, Inviting Atmosphere
Before you begin, set the mood. Gather your family in a comfortable space where everyone feels relaxed and open to sharing. Dim the lights, play soft holiday music, and maybe light some candles or the fireplace. Make it cozy—after all, connection happens best when everyone feels safe and comfortable! 🎄🔥
2. Explain the Game to Your Family
Start by letting everyone know that Emotions in Time is all about opening up and connecting through emotions, but it’s also designed to be fun. Share that there’s no pressure—everyone can share as much or as little as they feel comfortable.
Here’s a quick way to explain the rules
1. Draw an Emotion Card
2. Roll the Die
3. Share a Story Related to the Emotion & Time

Adjusting The Die (optional)
You can play with the die just like in the original game, but if you’d like to bring in some holiday spirit, there are two fun ways to adapt it! You can go free style using prompts like the ones below to add a festive twist to your game
Past: Share a special memory from a past Christmas or holiday.
Example: “What’s a Christmas tradition from your childhood that always made you feel this emotion?”
Present: Talk about what’s on your mind this holiday season.
Example: “How do you want to feel about this emotion during the holiday ahead?”
Future: Share your hopes or wishes for future holidays.
Example: “What’s a new approach you’d like to take in the future for dealing with this emotion during the holidays?”

3. Start Slow & Pick the Right Time
You don’t have to dive right in. Start the game at a natural point in your holiday gathering—maybe after dinner, while everyone is enjoying dessert or hot chocolate. Encourage lighthearted sharing in the beginning to keep the mood fun. 🍪☕
4. Encourage Active Listening
Remind everyone that the goal is to listen as much as it is to share. You can encourage active listening by asking follow-up questions or thanking someone for being open. Use phrases like, “That’s really meaningful,” or, “I never knew that about you!” to make everyone feel heard. 💜
5. Include Everyone—Even the Kids!
If you’re playing with younger children, you can simplify the questions or let them choose a card and interpret it in their own way. Kids often have unique insights, and including them makes the experience more meaningful for everyone.
For example, if a card asks about an emotion they’re not familiar with, help them by explaining it in simple terms. You could say, “This card is about feeling proud. Can you tell us about a time you felt proud of yourself?”
6. End on a Positive Note
When everyone’s had a turn or when you feel like the game has naturally come to a close, bring the conversation to a warm and loving end. Encourage everyone to share a hug, a laugh, or a word of thanks before closing. Let the warmth of connection fill the room as you continue your celebration. 🎉❤️
7. Don’t Forget to Have Fun!
While the game can get deep, it’s also about having fun and enjoying each other’s company. Laugh, cry, and celebrate the emotions that make your family unique. 💞
From the ok2feel family to yours, I truly wish you a beautiful, heartfelt holiday season!
