How to Use Emotions in Time
The Emotions in Time deck is a tool for reflection and emotional awareness. You can use it in therapy, groups, or on your own. Here’s how it works:
Pick one emotion card at random from the deck.
Roll the included dice to reveal a time frame: Past / Present / Future
You can speak, journal, or just think it through silently. There's no wrong way.
In therapy – as a warm-up, check-in, or to explore specific events
In group settings – to encourage emotional expression and empathy
With kids or teens – using simpler language and examples
For creative work – as writing or drawing prompts
In relationships – to open meaningful conversations
Solo practice – for emotional tracking, processing, or journaling
In workshops or classrooms – as part of emotional education or group dynamics
Choose a card on purpose (instead of random) to focus on a specific emotion
Use multiple cards and compare how emotions from the same time frame relate
Explore the same emotion across all three time frames
Use the cards at the start or end of the day to reflect
Pair it with art materials, music, or body movement to go deeper
